Just recently a young girl told me that her co-worker and friend passed away. She showed me his picture and I replied that he looked too young to have died. Somewhere in my heart I didn't believe my reply. After all, with the rise of drug use, especially heroine, that has plagued that community, the news of young people dying no longer surprise me.
However, her friend, a 46 year old pizza delivery driver, was killed in an automobile accident. And what actually surprised me was he was not wearing his seat belt. Like warning’s issued on the side of cigarette packages, seat belts have been around my whole life. Yet in spite of the possibility of death people continue to smoke…and continue to drive without their seat belts securely fastened. I don't get it. Time and time again it has been proven. This one simple act can save your life. This is what Christianity is all about. One simple act of faith in Jesus Christ is like a seat belt that holds us close to God. It doesn't mean that accidents won't happen...they will...but what Jesus teaches us and the Bible upholds is this: the seat belt of faith will at least keep us alive whether we survive the wreck or not.
