Proverbs 22:1 begins by stating "A good name is more desirable than great wealth, the respect of others is better than silver and gold." So when we meet someone respect is key. I am reminded of the Rolling Stones song 'Sympathy for the Devil' in that Lucifer demands respect as well as good taste when you meet him. So have some courtesy with each person you deal with. You might not always be able to see the very commonality you share but it is there. For Proverbs 22:2 states, "Rich and poor are found together, God made them all."
The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, riches, honor and life. Just read this wonderful quote:
"Be kind- for every one you meet is fighting a hard battle." -Anonymous We all have a few things in common that can start a conversation and at least one thing that can begin a friendship. In his letter to the Galatians, St. Paul writes:
"Brethren, even if a person is caught in any trespasses you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to youself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ." (Gal. 6:1-2) This life of ours is not our life but a gift. However this gift is also a burden in that we are called to care for it. And not just ours but the gifts of others. Especially those who have fallen or gone adrift in the sea of chaos. These people we might say are the ones who are not like us. They are the ones we often look down upon from our glass towers. To follow the Law of Christ means to reach out to those souls in gentleness and not judgement. To offer a helping hand, not because we are better than them or because we believe we can fix them. Instead we reach out in tenderness and love because that is what we are called to do. We are nurses not judges. We care for the patient so God can cure the pain. "For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself." (Gal. 6:3) Meditate: I am neither judge or jury, but simply a vessel of God's forgiving love. |
