Andrew stopped by my house with a young man named Drake. Both men were black, but had accents that I could not figure out from where. They were wearing suits, and holding some literature as well as a Bible. They were Jehovah’s Witnesses who weren’t sure what to make of another minister who wanted to get to know them better.
I was challenged because they didn’t want to talk about themselves, they wanted to share their faith and talk about God. It was in my listening and in my engagement with them that I realized, we don’t have to ask questions to get to know a person’s heart. We just have to listen, with our ears and eyes and heart.
For some reason they gave me permission to talk about them but they wouldn’t let me take their picture. Maybe they didn’t want me to invade their privacy…
