Clyde is a 73 year-old Scientologist I met while walking in my neighborhood. He is originally from a small beach community near Galveston, Texas but now he lives in a adult community located in a “not so nice neighborhood” a few miles away. He told me he likes to go to different neighborhoods to walk, “to clear his head and to keep his mind focused.” He grew up Catholic (which he abandoned after the church stopped the Latin masses), and has been studying Scientology for most of his life. While at first he wasn’t receptive to the idea of talking with a stranger, especially a minister, when he realized I wasn’t trying to convert him, Clyde began to open up about Scientology. I’ll admit what he had to say was fascinating, but I was most inspired by his passion. What’s the one thing Clyde wants you to know about him? I couldn’t tell you, because he wouldn’t answer that question. Or maybe that was his way of answering. |
